China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd. held Collective Start-up Ceremony for New Energy Projects of Q2 2022, with China's First "Carbon-neutral New Village" Comprehensive Demonstration Base Settled in Huadu
China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd. held a collective start-up ceremony for new energy projects of the second quarter of 2022. And launched in Guangzhou at the same time was the first phase of the Chini Town 320,000-kilowatt photovoltaic project, which is part of the country’s first fishery complementary photovoltaic comprehensive demonstration project under the Carbon-neutral New Village campaign.
The project in Chini Town covers an area of about 988 acres and will be constructed in two phases. The first phase will have an installed capacity of 220,000 kilowatts, and the second phase 100,000 kilowatts. With a total planned investment of 1.32 billion yuan, it is expected to be integrated into the grid in its full capacity by the end of this year. Upon completion, every year the project can upload to the grid about 320 million kWhs electricity on average, save about 110,000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 280,000 tons; it will become an example for rural revitalization and "dual-carbon" integrated development.
Relying on the "integrated fishery and photovoltaic" model, the project follows a path of intensive development featuring "power generation above the water, aquaculture beneath the water " and "developing two industries with one source". On the one hand, it generates clean energy, and on the other hand, it helps develop intelligent ecological agriculture to improve resource utilization efficiency in agricultural production. Modern and intelligent aquafarming is introduced to increase farmers' income and the output value of fishery industry, and the photovoltaic power station will be turned into a showcase of the effects that can be achieved, and so to realize multiple wins in terms of social, economic and environmental benefits.
The Rural Revitalization and Development Research Institute of South China University of Technology, and Philein Energy Development Co., Ltd will lend assistance to Huadu District Government and the Southern Branch of China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd in building Chini Town’s fishery complementary photovoltaic project into the China's first integrated eco-industry demonstration base under the "Carbon-neutral New Village” program. By creating a sustainable platform the connects the government, universities, think tanks, and enterprises, and resorting to various means, such as innovation of rural low-carbon economic model, construction of ecological governance systems, R&D and application of low-carbon technology, and comprehensive utilization of complementary rural energy sources, great efforts will be made to promote R&D and operational practice in such frontier fields as rural new energy integration, digital rural development research and application. The aim is to create a comprehensive utilization project of energy resources that integrates green energy, modern agriculture, functional green space, cultural tourism and leisure, and rural infrastructure, building a brand and create value together with local government.
