The Information Office of Guangdong Province recently held a press conference on the approval of upgrading Guangzhou Huadu Economic Development Zone to a national economic and technological development zone. The press conference was followed by a plaque unveiling ceremony for the Development Zone and a contract signing ceremony for projects in the Development Zone, which includes 2 academician-led projects and 3 10-billion-level projects.

Zhang Liqun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Tang Hongwu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of South China University of Technology, and Zhang Yue, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries, and former vice president of the University of Science and Technology Beijing, attended the event to cheer for Huadu.

Empower Huadu's automobile industry

Build an internationally leading research and verification platform for green and low-carbon tires.

The first contract signed was for the Huadu Green Low-Carbon Advanced Elastomer and Tire Research Institute, which is a joint project by Huadu District, Shandong Linglong Tyre Co., Ltd., and South China University of Technology, intended to build the world's first wide speed range, wide temperature range, wide load range, multi road condition rolling dynamic simulation large scale scientific facility and a green elastomer conversion platform for tires, to create a series of important high-performance green elastomer materials; the project is expected to break the relevant technical barriers and secure for China the leading position in the global automotive green tire market.

Zhang Liqun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Xi'an Jiaotong University, said, "Since tires and their elastomer materials constitute also a key link in the automotive industry chain, and the automobile industry is an important pillar of Guangzhou's economy, it is hoped that the Institute will be relied on to create technology transfer sub-centers of South China University of Technology, Beijing University of Chemical Technology and Xi'an Jiaotong University to attract and effectuate commercialization in Huadu District and Guangzhou of scientific and technological achievements of universities, turning more scientific and technological achievements into real productivity as soon as possible. ”

Tang Hongwu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of South China University of Technology, pointed out, "The Institute is committed to building the world's first wide speed range, wide temperature range, wide load range, multi road condition rolling dynamic simulation large scale scientific facility, which can not only evaluate of tire performance in extreme environments, but also provide a scientific basis for the forward design and development of structure of high-performance tires. The Institute is also committed to building a world-class R&D and achievement commercialization platform for green elastomers and tires, promoting the application and commercialization of a series of key materials for high-performance tires. ”

Having an automobile industry featuring high degree agglomeration, complete supporting facilities and a complete industrial chain, Huadu has supplied a total of more than 15 million cars to the whole country, which, coupled with the continuous growth of airport-based industry, and the complete industry chain from aviation maintenance, manufacturing to operation support, shows a promising future for researches of green tires and their commercialization.

At the event, Huadu District, the State Key Laboratory for Advanced Metals and Materials at the University of Science and Technology Beijing, and Beike Qinglü Hydrogen Energy (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd. signed a cooperation agreement on the project of the GBA Green Hydrogen Industry Development Research Institute cum GBA Hydrogen Application Demonstration Base of the State Key Laboratory for Advanced Metals and Materials. Tasked to address the needs of the national “dual-carbon” strategy, the Institute will give full play to the foundation advantages and policy advantages of Guangzhou in industrial chain as the hydrogen hub center in the Greater Bay Area, and focus on the research and development of key technologies and equipment in the field of green hydrogen production to build the world's first intelligent production line for nanocatalytic hydrogen components.

Zhang Yue pointed out that the GBA Green Hydrogen Industry Development Research Institute would rely on the "Green Energy Valley" of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in Huadu, actively participate in and help Guangzhou build a hydrogen energy hub in southern China, and be committed to becoming a design center, equipment manufacturing center, market operation center and international exchange center for hydrogen energy research and development in the Greater Bay Area, to promote the high-quality development of the hydrogen energy industry in the Greater Bay Area. The State Key Laboratory for Advanced Metals and Materials will play a dominant role in the construction of a full-chain scientific and technological innovation ecology covering basic research, applied basic research and industrial application, and by optimizing and integrating scientific and technological resources, will further promote the integration of innovation and industrial resources, promote the in-depth coordinated development of innovation chain, industrial chain and talent chain.

Huadu District commenced its planning to build the "Green Energy Valley" in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a green energy base integrating photovoltaic, hydrogen energy and energy storage. The project is committed to the iterative development of game changing nano-catalytic module products of low-cost, low-energy consumption, and low-emission; and the related products have been certified by a number of third-party authoritative institutions at home and abroad, and have made a comprehensive breakthrough in key performance indicators of the whole machine equipment, such as energy consumption of hydrogen preparation, current density limit, and service life, realizing the research and achievement commercialization along the full chain from laboratory basic research and development to industrial-scale production. As an especially perfect match with the industrial development direction of Huadu, the project can make use of the good foundation for green industry to inject "hydrogen" momentum into the "low-carbon" and high-quality development of Guangzhou and even the whole country to lead the development of the global hydrogen energy industry.

Surfing, innovation parks, and emergency management

Three 10-billion projects settled in Huadu

Contracts were also signed for three 10-billion projects on the same day, namely Guangzhou International Surfing Sports World, Wanyang Smart Manufacturing Base, and China Anneng Emergency Industrial Base.

At the planned location on the central axis of Huadu and the west side of Sunac Cultural Tourism City, Guangzhou International Surfing Sports World will invest 12.7 billion yuan to build an international surfing sports center integrating surfing, sports and leisure; the planned area of thousands of acres will have lagoon surfing, surfing schools, surf houses, 20-25 meter deep diving sports area, as well as water playgrounds, parent-child pools, shopping malls, resort hotels, etc.. The project will become a world renowned surfing sports tourism and leisure destination, a surfing event center, and a training base for surfing coaches, athletes and surfing sports.

The project has the potential to become another tourism highlight of Huadu after the Sunac Cultural Tourism City, which is the most popular IP of the District. With its plan to build a comprehensive surfing sports spot that integrates sports, leisure, commerce and residence, it is expected to create about 4,500 new jobs, attract 300,000 tourists every year, and hold at least 10 large-scale or international surfing events in the next five years, which will help to promote the development of surfing culture in Guangzhou and even the whole country, and boost the construction of Huadu as the northern tourism hub in the Greater Bay Area and a world class tourism destination.

Wanyang Smart Manufacturing Base Project aims mainly to provide customized factory buildings for small and medium-sized enterprises. Wanyang Group plans to build, in accordance with the layout of industrial planning, in the "Northern Growth Pole" area of Guangzhou a number of innovative industrial parks that integrate high-end manufacturing research and development, efficient e-commerce operation, intelligent warehousing and logistics system, proper production and living facilities, diversified financial service support and advanced smart park management system. The project will have a total investment of 11 billion yuan, and an estimated annual output of 14 billion. The completion of the project will enable Guangzhou to further play its roles as international trade center, national advanced manufacturing base, comprehensive gateway, and important carrier of international science and technology innovation centers, and to make every effort to build a comprehensive manufacturing industry cluster empowerment platform in the northern part of the Greater Bay Area.

The China Anneng Emergency Industrial Base Project will systematically place and implement six major engineering projects in Huadu to create and improve new highlands, new highlights and new business formats of Huadu's emergency safety management along the whole industry chain. It has huge potential in generating benefits from political, economic and social radiation, as it will bring to Huadu high-end professional and technical talents that match the development of the industry, in addition to extensive and diversified labor employment and significant economic benefits, and will influence and drive large-scale tertiary consumption.
